Hyperbole. hy·per·bo·le. Merriam Webster describes the word as extravagant exaggeration, using the phrase “mile high ice cream cones” to illustrate the term. Of course, no one is going to be object to an ice cream shop using hyperbole to promote their business and delicious summer treat. Hyperbole can be innocent, cute, showcasing everyday emotions, making us laugh and making us commiserate in solidarity. “Your son has grown as tall as a tree!”
